The Ants build a ladder to escape the Bugbat

An army of ants has been growing in this Bugbat pitcher. Today they got organized.

The ants formed 2 columns (a ladder perhaps?) to get them out of the digestive zone. Unfortunately, their ladder only gets them to the Zone 2-3 boundary.

Curses, foiled again by the slippery surface of Zone 2.

S. Bugbat (this end up)

I have started filming the outside of the pitcher so I could keep track of the pitcher the video was shot in. Sometimes its perpendicular to what it should be. OOPS

Another video in the same pitcher the next day

Meanwhile, in another Bugbat pitcher…

Almost no ants at all. Just a very lost roach

This is very puzzling. And it's not that it's in a pitcher of a different Bugbat plant. This was a in a Bugbat pitcher of the same plant!

See for yourself.

Just for comparison, there were no ants in the Judith Hindle

and in the Leucophylla: a few live ants on a pile of ant carcasses

Not sure why there are ants in some and not other pitchers.
