April 19, 2020 The ants are up to something again. They’ve stolen prey from my drosera and now they are trying to steal prey from my sarracenia! I put a giant roach into one of the new S. Yellow Jacket pitchers. Smaller prey tends to settle to the bottom and since this tends to curve towards the bottom, the small prey can go where the pencam can’t go. Well that won’t happen with a 2 inch roach. Also, previously roaches have produced giant “blooms” of mites. (The pitchers have captured these giant roaches before. One of these monsters nearly filled up a small S. bugbat pitcher with amusing results) Well the day after I put the roach in the pitcher, I found an army of ants trying to chop it up and haul it off. The army included several gi-ants to help dismantle the roach. Fortunately for the pitcher plant, the ants couldn’t haul it’s food away.
Not sure whether he's helping or attacking, but one of the gi-ants started dragging around one of the smaller ants. (around 4 minutes)
The video was recorded in this S. Yellow Jacket pitcher.

Also, there is no truth to the rumor that ants had "the munchies" because it was 420.
Ants always have the munchies
