Laser Spider in S. Bugbat

This is a follow up about the spider inside the S Bugbat. Its been living in there all summer. It's been living the good life by spider standards. All it has to do is hang out and wait for the ants to arrive. In fact, it has a favorite hangout. It is usually by its nest near the top of zone 4 just below the Hooker Zone 3-4.boundary.

Pitcher plants leaves frequently have small patches of brown. Not sure if it's dead or what, but the brown patches can be used like a fingerprint to identify where you are in the pitcher, inside or outside. In this case the spider's nest is just below a relatively large brown patch. I confirmed the location a laser pointer. The spider looks even scarier in red.

The spider is in one of the first Bugbat pitchers of the season. I thought it was huge. It was twice the size of last year's pitchers. It's around 15.5 inches. Now the spider pitcher is dwarfed by the newer pitchers, the tallest around 18 inches.

The spider's nest is around 12.5 inches. If you look carefully, you can see the spider's shadow
