There’s a monster in my Leucophylla

Updated: Apr 24, 2019

Maybe it's because it's nearly Halloween, but i saw a monster today. In a Leucophylla. Expecting to see an army of ants, a large millipede(?) at the bottom of the trap.

The video is a little backwards. Normally, I start at the top and work my way down.

This video starts at the bottom and the first thing you see is the millipede. It appears dead and that it died and curled up, so you can see the front and back of the animal.

The video isn’t great. It's a little out of focus partially because i was still getting the hang of it and also because the animal is so large (relatively) that it is difficult to get the whole animal in focus. Also, it is impossible to manually focus at the bottom of this tall pitcher because the focus dial is at least 6 inches inside the plant.

Note that you can see the little white blobs on the millipede

Also, you can see a small army of ants as the pencam pulls out. They were hanging out at the Zone 2-3 transition. It's too slippery to get any further up
